Some sessions just unfold in the best, most natural way — and the Phelps family’s was exactly that.
We started in the trees, letting the kids lead the pace. There wasn’t any rush to “get the shot” — just walking, exploring and letting moments happen as they wanted to. The light filtered through the branches in that soft, steady way that makes everything feel a little slower, a little more present. It gave us space to capture what matters most: connection, movement and the in-between moments that don’t need direction.
As we made our way out to the field, everything opened up. More space, more movement, more room for the kids to just be themselves. This is usually where things loosen up even more — running, laughing, a little chaos in the best way. The kind of energy that translates so well on video and brings still images to life too.
And then, the perfect ending — an ice cream stop at Culver’s.
No posing, no prompting — just real life. Sticky hands, messy faces and that post-session exhale where everyone can just relax. It’s always these moments that end up meaning the most later on. Not the perfectly framed portraits, but the feeling of what it was like to be there together.
That’s the goal every time: not just how it looked, but how it felt.
