When you want to follow a family tradition of getting married on May 6, you make it happen — even if it falls on a Tuesday.
Kelly and Ian’s wedding story isn’t just about one day. It’s about honoring the past, celebrating the present and making space for all the people they love.
And it was a joy to document both chapters.
A meaningful May 6 church wedding
Kelly always knew she wanted to be married on May 6 — the same date and church where her parents (2018), grandparents (1952) and great-grandparents (1908) were married. That kind of legacy doesn’t come around often and they leaned into it fully.
Their May wedding was intimate and deeply personal. The wedding party was made up of family members and a couple of close friends who felt like family. The day carried a quiet weight of history and meaning.
You could feel the connection across generations — the sense that this place and this date mattered far beyond the timeline of a single wedding day.
It wasn’t about scale.
It was about significance.
A second celebration in July at Legacy Hill Farm
Then came July — and with it, a whole new wedding day.
This time, Kelly and Ian opened the circle wide. Friends stood beside them in the wedding party, a new dress made its debut and the celebration moved to Legacy Hill Farm, a beautiful and spacious Minnesota wedding venue.
Where May was intimate and rooted in tradition, July was expansive and lively. A big guest list, a big space and a big energy shift.
Both days reflected different parts of their lives and relationships, and neither replaced the other. Instead, they complemented each other.
Two days, fully lived
Filming both weddings meant capturing two distinct atmospheres:
A day centered on family history and legacy.
A day centered on community and celebration.
Some couples feel pressure to fit everything into one timeline. Kelly and Ian gave themselves permission to do it their way — and the result was two wedding days that each felt complete and true.
A wedding story worth telling twice
What stands out most is how intentional they were. They didn’t choose between tradition and celebration. They made room for both.
Two ceremonies.
Two sets of memories.
Two films that tell one bigger story.
Being trusted to document both was incredibly special. Because years from now, they won’t just remember how their weddings looked — they’ll get to relive them whenever they want!
